What is Short Backgammon?

Short Backgammon is a super fun board game for two players. It’s played on a special board that’s split into two halves. This game is super old—people have been playing it for over 5,000 years! There’s even proof, like an ancient backgammon board found in Iran that’s from around 3000 BC. Cool, right? They also found something like it in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The rules are pretty simple, but you’ll need some smart thinking and a bit of luck to win. The game uses a board, 30 checkers (15 for each player in two colors), and two dice. You can play against the computer, with a friend on the same device, or even online against someone else.

How to Play

The goal of the game is to move all your checkers into your "house" and then take them off the board before your opponent does. Here’s how it works:

1. Roll the Dice: Players take turns rolling two dice. The numbers on the dice tell you how many spaces to move your checkers.
2. Move Your Checkers: Checkers always move in one direction—from higher-numbered points to lower-numbered points. You can only move a checker to an open point, which means it’s not blocked by two or more of your opponent’s checkers.
3. Doubles Rule: If you roll doubles (like two 3s), you get to move four times instead of two!
4. Bearing Off: Once all your checkers are in your house, you can start taking them off the board. The first player to remove all their checkers wins!
