What is Mahjong?

Mahjong is a classic game that employs a set of tiles to create a challenging and engaging experience. The objective is to cleverly match identical tiles and clear them from the board, thereby revealing the hidden tiles beneath. This process continues until all the pieces on the board have been eliminated, showcasing the skill and strategy of the player. Mahjong rules apply to govern gameplay.

How to play Mahjong

1. Setup the Tiles: Arrange a total of 144 tiles on the board in a specific pattern.
2. Select a Dealer: A player is chosen as the dealer, and the role rotates clockwise after each round.
3. Initial Deal: The dealer gives each player 13 tiles.
4. Play the Game:
   • Draw and Discard: Players take turns to draw a tile from the wall (either from the top of the wall or the side, depending on the variant) and discard one tile from their hand.
   • Match Tiles: The goal is to form a sequence of tiles that meet certain criteria. These criteria include pairs, triples, straights, and a set of three identical tiles with one pair (a “wind” or “dragon” tile).
   • Winning: The game ends when a player achieves a winning hand. This can be a concealed hand (where all tiles are hidden) or an exposed hand (where the tiles are displayed). The winning hand must include all the tiles in the player's hand, excluding the concealed hand’s four winds and dragons.
5. Score Keeping: The game is scored based on the tiles in the losing player’s hand, with certain tiles being worth more points than others.
